For any group of contracts expiring at a given settlement date, the Volume Rank indicator sorts them according to the aggregate dollar volume traded in the last 24-hours.
The Volume Rank metric is helpful to estimate the liquidity among top futures contracts. In general, high volume tends to be a sign of high liquidity, which is positive for both traders and the market itself.
Traders may want to look at the contracts with highest volumes as these are more liquid and can therefore provide lower transaction costs to them. Additionally, they may want to see the percentage of volume concentrated among the top contracts to identify the leading exchanges by market share.
