This insight displays the amount of Ether locked in DeFi protocols’ smart contracts. This is shown as a percentage of Ether’s circulating supply on the left y-axis, in dollar terms in the right y-axis and in ETH terms within parenthesis in the chart’s tooltip.
💡 How can I use it?
The amount of Ethereum supply locked is helpful to monitor the proportion of ETH deposited into DeFi applications. In theory, a greater share of ETH locked in protocols should make it more scarce as less ETH is available to be sold. In practice, though, DeFi users are generally free to withdraw their ETH supplied to protocols and sell if they wish. Therefore, this insight is better suited simply to track long-term progress and confidence from ETH holders depositing into DeFi protocols.
